Δύο νέα μιούζικαλ, το «An American in Paris» και το «Fun Home» θα συναγωνιστούν με 12 υποψηφιότητες το καθένα στη κούρσα των θεατρικών βραβείων Tony.
Οι ηθοποιοί Bruce Willis και Mary Louise Parker ανακοίνωσαν την πλήρη λίστα με τους υποψηφίους της 69ης τελετής, η οποία θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 7 Ιουνίου στο Radio City Music Hall της Νέας Υόρκης.
Η μουσικοθεατρική παραγωγή του Μπρόντγουεϊ, που αποτελεί μεταφορά της ομώνυμης χολιγουντιανής ταινίας του 1951 με τον Gene Kelly, δεν είναι όμως το μόνο φαβορί. Ακολουθεί το μιούζικαλ «Something Rotten!» με εννέα υποψηφιότητες και το θεατρικό έργο «The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time» με έξι συνολικά.
Μεταξύ των υποψηφίων για Tony καλύτερου ηθοποιού σε θεατρικό έργο είναι οι Bradley Cooper (The Elephant Man) και Bill Nighy (Skylight), ενώ για το αντίστοιχο γυναικείο τα προγνωστικά επιβεβαιώθηκαν με τις Helen Mirren (The Audience) και Carey Mulligan (Skylight) να θέτουν υποψηφιότητα. Επίσης, υποψήφιος για πρωτότυπο μουσικό θέμα γραμμένο για το θέατρο (The Ship) είναι ο Sting.
